Who are China’s most powerful people?

What do Zhang Ziyi, Bo Xilai and Jack Ma have in common? According to BussinessWeek magazine, they are members of the 40 most influential people in China today. You can see their brief write ups here with photos.
The Wall Street Journal has their names listed in a more coherent manner here. They break the names down into three categories: gov’t officials, executives and others, noting that all 25 members of the full Politburo, most of whom are not included, "could out muscle list-member Zhang Ziyi."
This is probably the first list of many we will see in the future about power in China. Who holds it? How does it work? Readers of American business magazines want to know. This seems to be related to the notion of the "China threat". That is, people are warily fascinated by China’s growing influence and want to understand it better, which is the best way to dispel fear.
Frankly, I would like to understand it better too, but I would like to see a list of those who rank as the most transparent and accountable as well. Perhaps America could use this kind of list as well because in the end its not just a question of power but of trust.
